Messaging access

How messaging access is granted on cord

✉️
Who is granted messaging access? Messaging access is granted to a limited number of people with the skill sets that are in high demand on cord.

Job Search Platform

For everyone

cord is a job search platform that enables everyone to surface relevant positions, make quality applications and manage their job search - all in one place. We believe finding work should be way easier - and that if it was - that more people would be doing their best work.

Surface relevant positions

When you sign up to cord, we actively index every position on the internet so you can surface all the relevant positions you need in one place.

Make quality applications

We then help you make higher quality applications. Company profiles highlight key information and position themselves breakdown the skill required and logistics.

Advanced position insights highlight popular skills and breakdown why applications are being rejected.

And the cord CV helps you standardise your profile, optimises your application for applicant tracking systems and beautifully presents your previous experience.

Manage your search

You can then keep track of all your ongoing applications inside your application tracker, replacing clunky spreadsheets with an easy-to-use Kanban board.

Know your worth

When it’s time to negotiate your salary, you can use cord’s salary tool to benchmark your salary against the market - ensuring you know your worth and get paid the right amount.

Messaging access

For a limited number of people

Alongside all of this - cord also grants messaging access to a limited number of people.

How does it work?

Rather than make an external application via a companies website, cord’s messaging tool allows people to direct message hiring managers on cord.

When someone finds a position they are interested in, they can open up a direct messaging thread with the hiring manager - and it works the other way around too.

Who can use it?

In order to strike the right balance between the number of people and positions on cord; messaging access is granted to a limited number of people with the skill sets that are in high demand on cord.

This can change week to week as the companies on cord begin hiring for new positions and close old ones. But in general, messaging access is granted by taking into account the following factors;

See here
  • The demand for someone’s skill set
    • Companies hire for a variety of positions on cord, but some positions are more in demand than others. To ensure the right balance between supply and demand - we match up the number of people joining with the number of available positions.
      • We break this down at a very granular level, from job categories (eg ‘development’) to positions (eg ‘front end developer’) to skills (’React, NextJS, Angular’ etc)
  • The right to work in a specific country
    • Whilst some of the positions on cord do sponsor, sponsorship, in general, is typically used by companies for more niche skill sets that they are finding hard to find.
  • Someone's level of experience/seniority
    • Companies on cord tend to be looking for more senior candidates with a specific skill set that is in short supply. It is rare that companies wish to use our messaging functionality for their more junior positions.
  • Where you are based
    • Most of the companies using cord’s messaging functionality are based in the UK or San Francisco. Whilst a limited handful of companies are 100% remote, most are looking for people who are able to work on a hybrid basis in either of these locations
  • The type of work
    • The majority of the positions on cord are permanent positions that are not looking for freelancers/contractors.

Note: the more positions we have on cord, the more people we can grant messaging access to. We are working hard to increase the number of opportunities on cord and get cord’s messaging functionality to as many people and positions as we can.
